Frequently Asked Questions
What are your specialties?
I am a spiritually-informed EMDR therapist. I have trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, a trauma treatment that has huge benefits for people experiencing PTSD, trauma, ongoing persistent anxiety and depression, phobias and more. I have completed the Basic training, as well as continuing programs in Complex PTSD and Grief.
I work with children ages 8 and up, and adults of all ages. I am an eclectic therapist, and I integrate talk therapy, body-based awareness and mindfulness. With children, I use Theraplay, an attachment-based therapy with children up to about age 13, depending on the needs and symptoms of the child. I also use EMDR therapy when appropriate for clients who are children. I consider therapy with children to be family work, and parents are very involved.
Do you take insurance?
No, but I am happy to prepare a Superbill for you, which you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits.
How long will I be in therapy?
We will work together to make a treatment plan when you begin counseling, which includes goals and anticipated steps. The duration of therapy varies based on symptoms and how you incorporate insights found in counseling into your daily life. Before we begin, I will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate. For questions about Good Faith Estimates, see www.cms.gov/nosurprises
Do I have to be religious to be your client?
Absolutely not. I consider my faith background only one aspect of my training, and include it only when explicitly asked. I have clients who are of many different faith, as well as agnostics and atheists.
